 | Parlor Table by Thomas Day
Mahogany veneer over yellow pine, ca. 1850.
Exhibited: The Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah, Georgia.
During the 19th Century, the parlor table, usually placed in the center of the room, was a very significant parlor item. This table is an exuberant combination of late neoclassical design and Day's distintive architectural silhouettes. The supports resemble the newel posts on the stair of the paschal House in Caswell County, North Carolina where Day installed the interior millwork.
